Why Petite Dressing Doesn't Have to Be Complicated

Published on

We don't currently do petite styles, however we do have some styles that work really well on people under 5'3"

Great style has no height requirement. Our petite-friendly edit is chosen by the team — real people, real heights — to show you exactly what works and why.

Finding clothes that genuinely fit a shorter frame — without requiring a trip to the tailor — can feel like a full-time job. Hems that drag, waistlines that sit in the wrong place, oversized sleeves that swamp your shoulders. Sound familiar? Our team member Carla has been there, and she's here to tell you: the right styles do exist.

At Sugarhill Brighton, a good chunk of our collection works beautifully on frames under 5'4". Below, Carla has curated her personal favourites — the pieces she reaches for week after week — along with exactly why each one works for a petite figure.

'I’m 5'2" and still wear a lot of Sugarhill styles! The shirred bodice midi dresses are such a great fit — they fall just above the ankle on me. The Cora cropped jumpsuit is a real winner, and I love that cropped trouser styles work so well for my height. I’ve also found the skirts to be a really good length, which makes them easy favourites in my wardrobe. Short dresses also work really well as they fall just above the knee.'

The Cora Cropped Jumpsuit

A really flattering length on a shorter frame, the Cora Jumpsuit hits just above the ankle — which is exactly where you want it. The cropped cut sidesteps the pooling hem problem entirely, while the wide-leg silhouette adds graceful volume without overwhelming a petite figure.

Made in organic cotton and available in a brilliant range of prints — from Ikat Leopard to Rainbow Parrot — this is the kind of one-and-done outfit that makes getting dressed genuinely joyful.

The Daphne Shirred Midi Dress

This one is a real confidence-booster for petite dressing. The puff sleeves create a beautiful balance — adding visual width at the shoulder to offset a slimmer frame — while the shirred bodice does the hard work of fitting your waist perfectly, no matter your size. The result? A look that feels tailored without a single alteration.

At 5'2", Carla finds the length lands just above the ankle — that lovely midi-almost-maxi sweet spot. Paired with platform sandals, it's an effortlessly put-together look from morning to evening.

The Logan Playsuit — A Petite Secret Weapon

Here's one Carla is particularly enthusiastic about: short playsuits are a genuinely underrated category for petite frames. While there may be a little extra room in the body (as with most styles cut to standard sizing), the matching tie means you can cinch it in at the waist for a perfectly fitted look every time.

The Logan Playsuit comes in organic cotton and lands in our favourite prints — Ikat Leopard and a bold Leaping Tiger — making it a versatile, easy-to-style option for warmer days or holiday packing.

Skirts — A Really Good Length

Skirts are one of those categories where petite dressing genuinely wins. Because the hem falls shorter on a smaller frame, midi skirts that might brush the calf on a taller person land at a really flattering mid-calf or above-the-calf length — no pooling, no dragging, no awkward proportion. Carla calls them easy wardrobe favourites, and it's easy to see why.

The Orianna denim skirt is a standout — a relaxed, everyday shape that pairs equally well with a tucked-in tee or an Andi jumper. Wear it with trainers for effortless weekends, or boots for something with a bit more edge.

The Andi Jumper

Boxy knitwear can go one of two ways on a petite frame — overwhelming or utterly chic. The Andi lands firmly in the second camp. A relaxed, dropped shoulder and slightly shorter length work together to keep proportions balanced, while the bold  prints give it personality in spades.

This is the jumper you'll reach for on days when comfort is non-negotiable but you still want to look like yourself. Wear it with cropped trousers — another petite favourite — or tucked partially into a skirt for an editorial flourish.
