Sun-Soaked & Smiling: How to Live Your Best Summer

Published on

The solstice has been and gone, and summer is officially, gloriously, here. The longest day may be behind us, but we've still got weeks of warmth, light, and long evenings stretching ahead — and I for one intend to make the most of every single one.

Here's how to really sink into the season.

Get In The Water

If there is one thing that defines a proper British summer, it's the pull of open water. Whether you're lucky enough to live by the sea, or you have a river, lake, pond, or lido nearby — get in. There is something about submerging yourself in cool, clear water on a warm day that feels almost medicinal. It wakes you up, calms you down, and reminds you that your body is capable of pure, uncomplicated joy.

Wild swimming has had its moment in the wellness world, and rightly so. But you don't need to make it a whole thing — sometimes it's just kicking off your shoes and wading in. That counts too.

Eat Outside, First Thing

There is a particular kind of magic to eating breakfast outside in summer. The day is still fresh, the light is golden, and before the inbox opens and the to-do list takes over, you get to just be for a moment. A coffee, something good to eat, and the morning sun on your face — it sounds small, but it genuinely sets the tone for the whole day.

Vitamin D first thing in the morning does wonders for your mood, your energy, and your soul. Make it a ritual. Even ten minutes counts.

Dress the Part — In Colour

Summer dressing should feel joyful, and nothing does that quite like a great co-ord in a print you love. The Thora Top and Eliza Shorts are made for exactly this kind of weather — effortless, vibrant, and the kind of outfit that makes you feel put-together without trying too hard.

Throw them on for a morning market, a lunch in the garden, or a day at the beach. A co-ord takes the thinking out of getting dressed and leaves you more time for the actually important stuff — like deciding where to swim.

Embrace Outdoor Living

There is something about being outside as the sun goes down that slows everything right down in the best possible way. A campsite, a garden, a roof terrace, a field — it doesn't really matter where. What matters is the fire (or the BBQ), the people you love most, the marshmallows, and the unhurried feeling of a summer evening with nowhere else to be.

We spend so much of the year rushing. Summer — proper summer — is the invitation to stop. Sit around the fire, watch the sky change colour, and soak up the kind of time together that you'll be smiling about come November.

The solstice may have passed, but summer is absolutely still yours. Get in the water, eat outside, wear something wonderful, and gather your people around you. This is the season for it 🌞
