At Sugarhill Brighton, we’ve always believed that what makes our brand truly special isn’t just the colourful prints or the feel-good designs — it’s the people who dream them up, sketch them out, and bring them to life. Behind every joyful jumper, playful print and perfectly cut dress is a small but mighty team of creative minds, each adding their own spark to what we do.
With our new blog series, In the Sugarhill Brighton Studio With…, we want to shine a light on the brilliant bunch who work their magic behind the scenes. From design and production to marketing, customer care and everything in between, this is your chance to meet the humans who make Sugarhill Brighton… well, Sugarhill Brighton.
Each post will introduce you to a different member of the team — sharing their stories, inspirations, favourite pieces, and maybe even a few surprises along the way.
So, pop the kettle on and join us as we pull back the curtain, celebrate our people, and show you the heart behind the brand. We can’t wait for you to meet them!
In the Sugarhill Brighton Studio With… Lucy🌟
As Sugarhill's longest-standing team member, Lucy — affectionately known as Nana — is the backbone of everything that gets made, shipped, and delivered on time. As Production Manager, she's the kind of person who just knows how things work, because she's seen it all, done it all, and probably fixed it twice before anyone else noticed there was a problem. Strong-willed, sharp, and endlessly fun to be around, Lucy brings an energy to the team that's impossible to replicate. She's the one people turn to when they need a straight answer, a steady hand, or someone to keep things moving when the pressure is on.
Oh, and if you want to win her over instantly? Put on a bit of Dolly Parton. She's a devoted fan, and honestly, her taste in music is as impeccable as everything else about her.
Sugarhill wouldn't be what it is without Nana. Simple as that.

- VANDER QUILTED WAISTCOAT- BLACK/ TEAL, TWILIGHT GINGHAM- this is great to just throw over when the weather is uncertain. It can go with anything but just a baggy pair of jeans and plain top, it will jazz the whole outfit up.

Can you tell me about your role at Sugarhill Brighton? What does your typical day look like?
Can you tell me about your role at Sugarhill Brighton? What does your typical day look like?
As the Studio Manager of Sugarhill Brighton, I am responsible for the day to day running of the in-house design studio. Each day can be quite different, whether it is assisting with fittings and sample management with the production team, or helping the design team with research and CAD work. I also assist with both in-house and location photoshoots which appear across our website, social media and catalogues.
I’m responsible for managing the timeline from when we place orders for garments through to their arrival at our warehouse. A typical day involves checking in with our factories to track production progress, as well as sending a lot of follow-up and reminder emails to keep everything on schedule.
We’ve been working with many of our factories for years, so naturally we’ve built great relationships along the way.
I work closely with the Design Team to ensure that all garments arrive exactly as intended and within the required timeframes. I also manage freight logistics. Whether shipments arrive by sea or air, there is a significant amount of coordination and documentation involved to ensure everything runs smoothly.
How would you describe your style? Are you influenced by anyone?
My lovely Mum has always been a big influence on my style. As time passes I find myself wearing more Navy and more Linen, just like her!I think my style is pretty classic and I keep to simple shapes and colours. I can't remember the last time I wore a heel....I'm a trainer girl through and through. Comfort is key!
What's your favourite thing to do right now? Hobby? TV? Book?
I'm at my happiest when I'm out in nature walking my dog, Scout. She is a slightly bonkers, Wirehaired Vizsla, whose boundless energy keeps us constantly entertained. I read a lot and always have a book on the go. I'm currently reading Flashlight by Susan Choi...it's a real page turner!I also love a bit of telly to switch off to. I've just smashed through the latest series of Bridgerton. The styling is out of this world.
Where is your favourite place to go in Brighton and why?
You can't been a mooch around the Laines followed by coffee and cake. I can get lost in Snoopers Paradise for hours and there are too many coffee shops to mention but a fave is 'Lost in The Lanes'
If money didn't matter, where would you travel to?
I have a long list of places I'd love to travel. My current top three would be New Zealand, Vietnam and Costa Rica...
Tell us a fun fact?
I'm the longest serving staff member. When I joined Sugarhill we worked out of Aleks's spare bedroom. Times have changed :)

Amity Jacket - Blue Stripe Denim
Great for spring as you there is room to layer a jumper under it but when it warms up you can wear with a classic white T. It's very versatile but also a little bit different. I love the boxy shape.
Charlene Cropped Trousers - Multi, Colourful Canvas Stripe
These Charlene trousers are a great alternative to a classic pair of jeans. The fun, colour combo is easy to wear and can be easily toned down with a plain top
Angelique Shirred Top - Off White, Wild Strawberry & Shelly Scallop Shorts - Deep Blue Denim
Such a pretty top. It makes me think of beach picnics and summer evenings. I'd wear it with the Shelly Scallop Shorts, white canvas trainers and oversized sunnies.
Leona Jumper - Navy, Orange Squeeze
I love the oversized comfiness of this 100% Cotton jumper. It's a bit of a statement piece but it makes me think of past Spanish Holidays. It's got sundowner vibes all over it...mines a Negroni!
