In the Sugarhill Brighton Studio With…Livi - Designer

Published on

At Sugarhill Brighton, we’ve always believed that what makes our brand truly special isn’t just the colourful prints or the feel-good designs — it’s the people who dream them up, sketch them out, and bring them to life. Behind every joyful jumper, playful print and perfectly cut dress is a small but mighty team of creative minds, each adding their own spark to what we do.

With our new blog series, In the Sugarhill Brighton Studio With…, we want to shine a light on the brilliant bunch who work their magic behind the scenes. From design and production to marketing, customer care and everything in between, this is your chance to meet the humans who make Sugarhill Brighton… well, Sugarhill Brighton.

Each post will introduce you to a different member of the team — sharing their stories, inspirations, favourite pieces, and maybe even a few surprises along the way.

So, pop the kettle on and join us as we pull back the curtain, celebrate our people, and show you the heart behind the brand. We can’t wait for you to meet them!

- VANDER QUILTED WAISTCOAT- BLACK/ TEAL, TWILIGHT GINGHAM- this is great to just throw over when the weather is uncertain. It can go with anything but just a baggy pair of jeans and plain top, it will jazz the whole outfit up.

Can you tell me about your role at Sugarhill Brighton? What does your typical day look like?

Can you tell me about your role at Sugarhill Brighton? What does your typical day look like?

As the Studio Manager of Sugarhill Brighton, I am responsible for the day to day running of the in-house design studio. Each day can be quite different, whether it is assisting with fittings and sample management with the production team, or helping the design team with research and CAD work. I also assist with both in-house and location photoshoots which appear across our website, social media and catalogues.

My day changes throughout the year, depending on where we are in the season. At the moment, I am designing AW26, working on the shapes for our prints to go on, so after checking my emails, I am drawing these up - or working on embroideries and embellishments. I communicate with our suppliers daily, checking on progress and working out any kinks. I also attend fit sessions, checking how each style looks on the body. I love the variety of working on different categories (i.e. not just dresses), and with a small team, so you always know what is going on.

How would you describe your style? Are you influenced by anyone?

I feel like my *vibe* changes daily - mainly I like colour, print and being comfy. I was very 'girly' into my twenties - I wore heels every day to work when I lived in London (crazy woman) - but I think living somewhere as casual as Brighton has had an impact. I flip-flop between a sporty look (jazzy leggings, oversized jumper, baseball cap), print dresses with trainers, and mom jeans with a variety of loud and bright tops/jumpers. I absolutely love broke dirty blonde, and also emma paton (though I will never look this classy), and Debbie Harrie has been, and will always be, a total style icon.

What is your favourite thing to do right now? Hobby? Tv? Book?

I love a wholesome activity - jigsaw puzzles, reading (mainly fantasy/dystopia), playing board games, tea and cake. And always, always painting.

Where is your favourite place to go in Brighton and why?

I would say wandering the Laines with a coffee is my favourite thing to do. I also love going for a cocktail at Valentino's - me and my husband, and lots of friends have been here many many times, and it holds lots of great memories. You also can't beat a walk along the seafront, fresh air and open space.

If money didn't matter, where would you travel to?

I am about to go to New Zealand, which feels pretty once-in-a-lifetime. I would love to go to the Maldives one day, I bet it feels like paradise.

Tell us a fun fact?

I can now weightlift more than my body weight.

Solana Knitted Bomber - Multi, Heart Scallop

I love how one piece of clothing can lift an outfit and make it look so much more unique. You can wear quite basic/plain stapes with this bomber, and it elevates the outfit. It's also quite cosy, which is ideal for this time of year.

Andi Jumper - Pink/Red Wavy Stripes

I will 100% be getting this for festive vibes. Pink and red is one of my favourite colour combos. It's sparkly, but not so festive you couldn't wear it at any time of year. A jazzy jumper is my go to for dinner our in winter, comfortable but with a little something.

Reagan Quilted Jacket - Black, Star Quilt

I have been wearing this non-stop since October hit. It's the perfect layer for this temperature. Also, black goes with everything.

Faith Jersey Jacquard Midi Skirt - Black/Off-White, Heart Explosion & Gerri Jersey Jacquard Top - Black/Off-White, Heart Explosion

I would wear these as a co-ord. In fact, I did last New Year's Eve, my friends had drinks and someone's house, and this balanced casual enough to be sitting on the sofa with a prosecco, and jazzy enough for NYE.

Ilsa Mini Shirt Dress - Mid Blue Denim, Bleached Stars

Again, it's an elevated staple you can make look quite casual or dress up. I think this is going to look great with my cowboy boots and lots of gold jewellery for a little date night.
